Genesis

Genesis was a successful AOR progessive rock band fronted by Peter Gabriel before it morphed into a pop band fronted by Phil Collins.

The band's earliest competitors and compatriots Genesiswere Yes, King Crimson, The Moody Blues, and Emerson, Lake and Palmer. The British band recorded five albums with Gabriel, all to solid critical acclaim and decent FM airplay.

Gabriel's departure left the band's frontman duties in the hands of drummer and former child actor Phil Collins, who after several missteps, launched the most commercially successful period in the band's history. Collins left Genesis following 1991's We Can't Dance, but guitarist Mike Rutherford (Mike and the Mechanics) and keyboardist Tony Banks continue to lead various versions of the band through new studio albums in addition to their own solo projects.
